Benton Rise Farm (#021)

This little patch of paradise in Tuerong, has been meticulously created by the previous owners from the overgrown paddocks into the glorious farm we have today. This is a family lifestyle choice we have made, where we know we can bring up our children in a fantastic community, place food on the table that we know the origins of – and enjoy the lifestyle the area provides.

Stock up on what’s ready and in season now!  Feed your family with nothing but the freshest fruits and veggies. And because we only sell what’s in season, we can be sure it will taste great. Quality produce is paramount for us at Benton Rise Farm, we aim to provide you the most cost effective produce on the Mornington Peninsula. Sure, we can’t always be the cheapest (though often we are!) this is purely a situation of ‘scale of economy’, but what we do promise to provide is fresh, high quality goods from our farm. Support your local peninsula producers!

Shoreham Valley Produce (#006)

Shoreham Valley Farm, established in 2013, aims to provide a range of high quality produce for farm-gate sales.  With Pink Lady apples, avocados of the less available varieties, Wurtz, Shepard and Pinkerton, pomegranates, tamarillos, blood oranges and ruby grapefruit yet to fruit, sales of garlic, rhubarb and raspberries have started.  Fresh herbs, spring onions and vegetables, including heirloom tomatoes have also been offered.  The range will vary seasonally, and full production from the orchard and blueberry planation will start in around two to three years.

A chalkboard sign at the gate at 6 Shoreham Road will indicate availability.
The enterprise uses the land’s extraordinary soils, the passion of its owners and organic and biodynamic practices, and is working toward appropriate certification and industry memberships.

Flinders Black Garlic (#052)

Flinders Black Garlic is a small, family owned and operated farm in Flinders on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Set on 84 acres and accompanied by two kids and 17 alpacas, we produce around 2 tonnes of fresh garlic each year which we then turn into our signature Black Garlic.

Our bulbs are processed using a slow ageing, fermentation process to produce sticky, black cloves with an intense and complex flavour.

  • Vegan
  • Gluten Free

What is black garlic?

Black garlic isn’t a variety of garlic, but rather fresh garlic that has been aged and ‘fermented’ until the individual cloves turn black and become sweet. It’s the end product that occurs when fresh garlic bulbs are exposed to constant high heat and humidity for an extended period of time. This process, known as the Maillard Reaction, creates an interaction between the amino acids and sugars in the garlic, producing blackened cloves with a distinctly different flavour and texture and an enhanced health food profile.

Mornington Peninsula Hydroponics (#004)

Frank and Luana Donato own Mornington Peninsula Hydroponics, a business which is undergoing radical change. By using new technology, Frank will be able to shrink the 3300 square metre hydroponic farm to just 330 square metres – and grow the same number of plants at a lower cost.

Utilising a factory rather than greenhouses and LED lights instead of sunlight, Frank can precisely control the amount of light, keep the temperature to a constant 21 degrees and inject CO2 to encourage growth. His seven tiers of plants will produce 10 times as much stock as a conventional greenhouse of the same size. His herbs, salad greens and other vegetables are sweet, tender and utterly delicious.

Hawkes Farm (#008)

Richard Hawkes is a huge supporter of agri-tourism, which he first experienced in Canada while completing his agricultural science degree. Hawkes Farm grows a range of vegetables, especially potatoes, and the family opened a farmgate store to sell direct to local people. Richard invited other Boneo growers to supply a wider range of fruit and vegetables, and his market now includes Melbournians who’ll take a trip to the Peninsula to buy freshly picked produce at very low prices. The farm store has also proven to be an excellent testing ground for new products, which the Hawkes family can trial with customers before scaling up for the market.
